Optoelectronics is a science & technology based on conjucion of optics & electronics.the advantage of such a conjucion result from a large speed and information carrying capacity of light coming into aligns with ready control ability of electrons.
It is a science because It has contributed a great deal to our understanding of photon and electrons and of the inter relashionship of them.
It is a technology becase based on science it has wide range of application witch affect our daily lives. Opoelectronics is the study and application of electronic devices that interact with light .
In this context,light often includes invisible forms of radiation such as ultraviolet and infrared . Opoelectronics is based on the quantum mechanical effects of light on semiconducting materials, sometimes in the presence of electric fields .
Optoelectronics includes the following physical phenomena.
• Photoelectric or photovoltaic effect, used in:
o photodiodes (including solarcells )
o phototransistors
o photomultipliers• Photoconductivity, used in:
o light-dependent resistors
o photoconductive camera tubes
o charge-coupled imaging devices• Stimulated emission , used in:
o lasers
• Lossev effect, or radiative recombination , used in:
o light-emitting diodes or LED
• Photoemissivity , usedin
o photoemissive camera tube
